The great house of the Marquesses of "La Quinta Roja",
nowadays the hotel of the same name, is one of the finest
examples of the architecture of the islandīs Baroque
period. The original building dates back to the 16th
century to coincide with the royal grant by King Charles
II of the title of Marquess of the "Quinta Roja". Located
in the north of Tenerife, about 60 km from the capital,
the town is called Garachico, a village with a noble
aspect, with big old houses and its coat of arms tells us
about itīs important past. The house was never directly
affected by the 1706 eruption, which represents a key
point and watershed in the fortunes and history of the
town. Garachico is a small stunning village, which had the
first commercial port of the island, till 1706 when the
volcano destroyed this harbour. At present it is a
beautiful village, with small unforgettable, historic
